Full product description
Expanded Clay Small 4-8mm is a premium lightweight growing medium designed for hydroponics, aquaponics, and horticulture systems. Made from natural clay that is kiln-fired at high temperatures, these small porous pellets provide excellent aeration, drainage, and root support while remaining completely inert and reusable.
The 4-8mm particle size makes this expanded clay ideal for smaller net pots, seed starting, propagation trays, and filtration applications where a finer substrate is required. Its porous structure allows oxygen to circulate around plant roots while still retaining enough moisture to support healthy growth.
Expanded clay (also known as LECA – Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate) is widely used in hydroponic and aquaponic systems because it does not break down, does not affect nutrient pH levels, and can be reused for multiple growing cycles. The micro-porous surface also provides beneficial surface area for microbial life that supports healthy root zones.
In addition to hydroponics, this media is also commonly used in pots and garden beds to improve soil aeration, prevent compaction, and enhance drainage. It can also be used as a decorative top dressing to reduce evaporation and keep growing areas clean.
Because expanded clay is chemically neutral, lightweight, and durable, it remains one of the most reliable substrates for growers who want consistent results in recirculating hydroponic or aquaponic systems.

How to Use
Before first use, rinse the expanded clay thoroughly with clean water to remove dust from the manufacturing process. Place the pellets directly into net pots, grow beds, or containers and insert your plant or seedling.
In hydroponic or aquaponic systems, ensure the media is periodically flushed with nutrient solution or system water to maintain a healthy root environment. After harvest, the pellets can be washed, sterilised if desired, and reused for future crops.
