Bentonite is a type of sedimentary clay that is commonly used in soil improvement. It is a fine, odorless, non-staining, safe to use material that can help improve the texture and nutritional activity of sandy soil.

• Combine organic matter like manure or horticultural compost with bentonite clay to enrich the texture and nutritional activity of sandy soil.
• Add dry calcium bentonite mixtures to new beds, but to avoid disrupting root systems in existing beds.
• Add ½ to 3kg of bentonite per square metre to newly constructed landscape and sandy soils. Dig evenly through the soil. The sandier the soil, the more bentonite you should add.
• Apply ¼ to ½ kg dry bentonite over established garden beds and water in over time. Avoid digging into the plant roots.
